Bringing Surgery Closer to Home

In the communities served by Compañeros En Salud (CES), as PIH is known in Mexico, there were once no gynecologists. Women would travel up to eight hours to see specialists.

This need inspired Dr. Andrea Jiménez, one of more than 100 first-year clinicians who have served with CES, to pursue a residency in gynecology and return to Chiapas. Jiménez has since performed surgeries ranging from C-sections to tubal ligations.
