With support from PIH and a community of remarkable women, 17-year-old Blessings Henry is eyeing medical school as she finishes the last year of her secondary education in Neno, Malawi.

Over a rising career with PIH, where he began as a security guard and now oversees more than 600 health workers, Benson Chabwera has remained rooted in his home district of Neno, Malawi.

Anne Marie Nyiranshimiyimana faced criticism and stigma when she began working as a mason. “They told me, ‘No woman builds, no woman climbs.’ They told me, ‘Women can’t do a lot of things.'" 

Irene Murungi, a technical advisor for gender issues at two Ugandan AIDS organizations, said her executive education course at UGHE was an opportunity to challenge herself and learn from peers.

Titus K. Koikoi is a program director for global health nonprofit Population Services International in Liberia. He completed UGHE's inaugural Executive Education course in 2016-17, and said the university is starting "a movement" to rethink how global health care is delivered.

2018 graduate Dr. Grace Dugan describes her time at UGHE, treating children with leukemia at the nearby hospital, and why working in global health is "an expression of solidarity with some of the world’s most vulnerable people."
