PIH Liberia's economic empowerment program helps patients start small businesses

Psychosocial counselors provide referrals and time-sensitive support to callers.

At the national govenment's request, PIH in Malawi's emergency response team is providing medical care, psychological support, and food, water, and sanitation supplies to survivors of Cyclone Freddy across southern Malawi.

The accomplishment is a major milestone for mental health care education and delivery.

In 2019, Ma-Kebbeh (pseudonym) began to show signs of schizophrenia. She talked to herself, refused to eat, and experienced hallucinations. According to her, strange things were happening.

“There was blood on the curtains and a dog entered our house,” she says. “And there was a big snake in the bathroom. My husband’s little brother killed it.”
