PIH Statement About the Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza and Region
PIH believes health is a human right. We condemn the killing of civilians, targeting of hospitals, and blockading of humanitarian aid as examples of gross disregard for human life. We stand behind the principles of medical neutrality. In Gaza, attacks are destroying hospitals, thereby erasing medical infrastructure, injuring and killing health workers, and eliminating virtually all access to health care. Additionally, humanitarian aid that is desperately needed by the nearly two million people who have been displaced is being blocked, resulting in extreme suffering. PIH supports global efforts to end the violence and suffering. We call for the unimpeded access of aid and sincere, global efforts to foster long-term peace and stability—including health infrastructure—in Gaza and the region.
