Formulary and Medication Guidance
This component provides resources and guidance useful for medication management of common and severe mental health conditions, including outlining recommended formularies based on the WHO’s Essential Medicine list and PIH context guidelines.
WHO Model List of Essential Medicines
The World Health Organization (WHO) Model List of Essential Medicines contains the medications considered to be most effective and safe to meet the most important needs in a health system, including psychotropic medicines for mental health conditions. The list is frequently used by countries to help develop their own local lists of essential medicines, including at PIH-supported sites. PIH uses this list to develop their formulary for psychotropic medications.
Haiti Medication Cards
As part of the Zanmi Lasante (ZL) Mental Health Curriculum Toolkit, ZL developed medication cards for providers to reference when prescribing medications. These job aids can be adapted for other contexts and used in both health centers and hospitals.
