PIH Welcomes Co-founder Dr. Jim Yong Kim Back Onto Board of Directors
JANUARY 7, 2019 — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON — Partners In Health is pleased to announce that Partners In Health Co-founder and World Bank Group President Dr. Jim Yong Kim will rejoin the global health nonprofit’s board of directors.
“In his broad and esteemed career, Jim has always focused on improving the lives of the poor,” said Ophelia Dahl, chair of the board of directors of Partners In Health. “We’re excited to welcome him back.”
Dr. Kim, a physician and anthropologist, became the 12th president of the World Bank Group in July 2012. Under his leadership, and with the backing of the World Bank Group’s 189 member countries, the institution established two goals: to end extreme poverty by 2030; and to boost shared prosperity, focusing on the bottom 40 percent of the population in developing countries. These goals now guide and inform the institution in its daily work around the globe.
Dr. Kim rejoins Partners In Health at an important moment for the global health organization, as it pushes ever harder for health and social justice. Founded in Haiti in 1987, Partners In Health now operates in 10 countries, employs 18,000 mostly local staff, and serves 7 million people annually.
