Unit 5: Women and HIV

Clinicians are trained to:
• Identify factors that make women vulnerable to HIV.
• Identify the main components necessary to provide comprehensive health care to women.
• Apply the comprehensive approach to the management of Women and HIV in practice.
• Integrate HIV prevention and family planning into a women’s health visit.
• Counsel HIV discordant couples who wish to conceive.
• Understand the difference between myths and facts about rape.
• Examine a rape victim.
• Explain the procedures for Post Exposure Prophylaxis.
• Explain the relationship between cervical cancer and HIV.
• Identify ways that clinicians can encourage men to support women’s health.
• Identify the key elements of obstetric and postpartum care for HIV+ women.
• Manage the prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV.

This unit contains approximately 11 hours of training sessions.
